50 years to the day since the orchestra played its first concert, we celebrate our birthday with a concert devoted to touchstones of contemporary music. David Atherton, George Benjamin and Vladimir Jurowski conduct a journey from music of the ensemble’s early years with Stravinsky’s Octet and Ligeti’s Chamber Concerto, to its present with Hans Abrahamsen’s piano concerto Left, alone, performed by Tamara Stefanovich, before looking ahead to the musical pioneers of the future with world premieres of London Sinfonietta commissions.
