Our work with schools
Our education work in 2017/18 and beyond focusses on building strong relationships with schools in under-served areas, working with local music services to apply our resources where they are most needed.
This season we will be working with music education hubs in the boroughs of Haringey and Enfield on an innovative project called Sound Out. Supported by the London Music Fund, Sound Out provides support to primary school teachers with a series of teacher training sessions to help inspire their pupils to compose and develop their music- making skills. Taking inspiration from CPD workshops, concerts, and resources provided by the London Sinfonietta, students will produce their own music which will be incorporated into a concert piece, and performed at our 50th Anniversary Schools Concert on 19 March 2018 in the Royal Festival Hall.
Experienced workshop leader Fraser Trainer will be leading the Sound Out sessions with school teachers and students, whilst their music will be re-worked for performance by composer John Woolrich. The world premiere performance will feature London Sinfonietta players alongside an ensemble of young secondary school musicians from Enfield and Haringey.
