KX Collective Launch

The KX Collective is a dynamic new group of young musicians, producers and creatives, from the area local to Kings Place - home of the London Sinfonietta.

Over two days in January, the KX Collective created new work for the 2010 Launch of the project. The KX Collective worked with composer and animateur Fraser Trainer, and musicians from the London Sinfonietta - Simon Haram (saxophone), David Purser (trombone) and Ian Dearden (Sound Intermedia), to create new music in an event at Kings Place.

As well as involving young people in making new music, members of the group are given the opportunity to curate and produce events with the ensemble. At each stage of the project, members of the group will become more and more involved with planning and production, as each young person explores their own area of interest and develops new skills.

It is not just an opportunity for young musicians, but also for those who are interested in stage management, lighting design, sound engineering and other aspects of event planning too. The nature of the London Sinfonietta’s art form means that there are many opportunities for collaboration with other art forms, integrating the music of the ensemble with other key areas of contemporary culture. This is hugely exciting for the participation of young people as there are so many different routes by which they can get involved.

The KX Collective is open to young people aged 14-19 from the boroughs of Islington and Camden.
