London Sinfonietta Academy 2010

Training musicians of tomorrow to play the music of today

Piloted in July 2009, the London Sinfonietta Academy is an intensive course of rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses and a final performance specialising in contemporary classical music. Participants are selected from UK-wide open auditions with the ensemble’s Principal Players, and following this process, up to 30 of the UK’s finest young musicians come together at Kings Place, the London Sinfonietta’s headquarters, to further their performing experience and training alongside some of the world's finest contemporary classical musicians.

For a taste of the 2009 academy, watch the documentary available by clicking the link on the left hand side of this page.

“There is so much to learn from the attitude and experience of the Principal Players”
Andrei Simion, cello (Academy 2009)

“It was a very inspiring experience that I hope will influence my music-making and professional interests for many years. I certainly feel inspired!”
Nick Wright, trumpet (Academy 2009)

“All of my expectations were met and exceeded, and often developed in directions I wasn’t expecting. During the Academy I feel every aspect of music making was touched on”
Jo Stark, bassoon (Academy 2009)
