Take a tour of the unconventional with London Sinfonietta
With music from three of the finest avant-garde composers, immerse yourself in the romance, drama and eccentricity of Alpine fairytales, long-distance love and the Italian wilderness in two concerts at Queen Elizabeth Hall this March.
Alpine Adventures
Wednesday 17 March, 7.30pm
Two enduring tales of long-distance love.
Delve into the passion and longing of one of the world’s great composers with Gerald Barry’s Beethoven, and venture into the mountains with Richard Ayres’ modern-day fairytale No.42 (In the Alps). Dramatic, fun, quirky and delightfully tender.
Martyn Brabbins leads the ensemble, with Stephen Richardson and Barbara Hannigan providing the vocals.
Castiglioni Revisited
Wednesday 31 March, 7.30pm
Explore the wilds of the Italian landscape in the wintry soundworld of
Niccolò Castiglioni.
Oliver Knussen’s imaginative approach makes him the perfect guide in this tour of the little-known composer’s work (a follow up to his first portrait of Castiglioni in 2008), and Anu Komsi joins him for the glittering soprano solos.
Tickets for both concerts £22, £15, £9
Students £4 Under 26s £6.50 (other concessions available)
