An excerpt from Vine's ocre oscuro, which features on the 5th CD in the London Sinfonietta's Jerwood Series, released 16th June 2009.

Ian Vine has often used techniques inspired by fine art in his recent pieces, and in this instance 'was concerned with layering material over an initial melodic line, as if painting over it'.

The piece is the second Vine has written under the London Sinfonietta's Blue Touch Paper initiative, the first being burnt umber for solo viola. This world premiere performance was recorded live by BBC Radio on 8 May 2007 at LSO St Luke's in London.
