An innovative short piece written for solo double bass, es was commissioned as part of the Sinfonietta Shorts initiative. The premiere performance took place at the Kings Place Festival in September 2009. es was designed as a test piece for Fujikura before he writes a concerto for double bass, which will have its world premiere in the 2011-12 season.
