An excerpt from William Attwood's Iwwer Tiermen, which features on the 4th CD in the London Sinfonietta's Jerwood Series.
Iwwer Tiermen means "above towers" and was inspired by the poetry of Jean-Louis Kieffer from the eastern part of Lorraine, France, who writes not in French or German, but in his native Mosel-Fränkisch. "It is a dialect which has always fascinated me," says Attwood, "at times it consists of arcane and strung-out syntax, at others of blunt vernacular. Kieffer's work is similarly full of sudden turns."
This world premiere performance was recorded live by BBC Radio on 27 January 2005 at Jerwood Hall, LSo St Lukes.
