An excerpt from Anna Meredith's flak, which features on the 5th CD in the London Sinfonietta's Jerwood Series, released 16th June 2009.
flak is the culmination if Anna's participation on the London Sinfonietta's Blue Touch Paper project, which nurtures emerging composers. She took the opportunity to write for electronics, and was mentored by the experimental electronic music duo Matmos.
The complete piece is split into 4 sections, and "as a nice theatrical finishing touch," says Anna, "trumpet players hidden in the lighting rig play untreated against the 'robified' [robot-like] climax whilst stomping on red floodlights for good measure ..."
This world premiere was recorded live at Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall on 30 April 2007.
