A concert at the spectacular Landguard Fort, on the coast in Felixstowe, celebrates the culmination of a creative project with community groups from the Suffolk Coastal Local Area. Young people from Deben High School, Orwell High School and Colneis Primary School have worked with composer Fraser Trainer, London Sinfonietta musicians Simon Haram (saxophone), Bruce Nockes (trumpet) and poet Dean Parkin.
Drawing on local history, memories and the changing landscape, the group are creating new work celebrating the combining of music and words.
This concert will be a wonderful mix of music making - showcasing local musical talent, as young musicians work alongside professional musicians from the London Sinfonifetta; thrilling live performances of existing repertoire by world class musicians, and crucially the combining of these two artistic worlds to create a concert that brings everyone together to experience what it's all about - making new music!
This concert marks the second visit of the London Sinfoneitta to Suffolk this year, following a fantastic event at Shotley in June. A partnership between the London Sinfonietta, Orchestras Live and Suffolk County is bringing contemporary music to four different local areas of Suffolk. We are greatly looking forward to 2010 when we will be meeting and working with local groups in Mid-Suffolk and Forest Heath to create new music.
