Frederick Rzewski Coming Together
Privacy laws, public transport, fuel prices, stabbings - the ticker tape news in the tabloids and the brooding discussion in the broadsheets provides Dominic Muldowney with the subject matter for a new composition that puts our daily obsessions on stage. This work is prefaced by music from some of the the most politically motivated composers of modern times. From Berio's paen to the great civil rights leader that captures something of the political turmoil of 1968 to Rzewski's Coming Together which uses the letter of a New York prisoner, each has used controversial messages and text as the inspirational for powerful pieces of contemporary music.
