Peter Maxwell Davies Veni Creator Spiritus
The London Sinfonietta presents two mesmerising works in the spacious acoustics of the St Magnus Cathedral, as part of the St Magnus International Festival.
Peter Maxwell Davies’s virtuoso piece for flute with bass clarinet, based on the plainsong of the same name, is an exploration of the passage of time and the pace of time passing.
Messiaen’s iconic work is an intense masterpiece written in a prisoner of war camp during World War II. The title refers to words in the Book of Revelation, and the music draws together birdsong, stained glass images and lyrical instrumental writing in a visionary soundworld.
The London Sinfonietta will be performing a selection of these works at Kings Place on Friday 1 July 2011, following its residency at the St Magnus International Festival. Click here for more details.
