Claude Debussy Syrinx
Described by Henry Miller as 'the stratospheric colossus of sound', Edgard Varèse (1883-1965) was writing music 50 years ahead of his time. Tonight in an event specially created for Turner Sims the London Sinfonietta presents some of his key works alongside music by composers who influenced him and music that places his work in context.
The London Sinfonietta is joined by American music expert Professor David Nicholls who will introduce a programme which includes Density 21.5, in which a solo flute seems to call out to the universe, and Octandre and Intégrales, works which pack a huge world of expression and vast sonic spaces into just a few minutes.
