Southbank Centre's Music Through Unconventional Means presents Concerto for Beatboxer and Orchestra
Southbank Centre have commissioned Anna Meredith and internationally renowned Beatbox Artist Shlomo to write a new piece for Beatbox and Orchestra. The ensemble is made up of players from Southbank Centre's 4 resident orchestras: London Sinfonietta, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
The creation of the new piece has been a collaborative process, involving players in workshops trying out new material and improvising to find techniques that work well together with Shlomo and his choir of Beatboxers. London Sinfonietta players include Simon Haram (saxophone), Sam Walton (percussion), Bruce Nockles (trumpet), Melinda Maxwell (oboe) and Steve Smith (guitar).
In the first half of the concert Southbank Artist in Residence Olly Coates will perform solo material and there will be a Q&A session with Shlomo and Anna Meredith where members of the audience can find out more about the making of the new piece.
