Gerald Barry Beethoven (London premiere)
Richard Ayres No 42 (In the Alps) (UK premiere)
In Beethoven, Gerald Barry sets the great composer’s words to a mysterious ‘immortal beloved’ to music. Passion, heartache and longing are brought to life by Barry’s unique brand of witty, sensuous music.
Both quirky and tender, Ayres’ lyrical melodrama No. 42 (In the Alps) tells the story of a young girl who grows up alone in the mountains, singing among the goats, until one day the local village trumpeter is entranced by her voice and sets out on a journey to find her.
6:15pm Take Note: Pre concert talk Gerald Barry and Richard Ayres discuss their music and answer questions from the audience.
