A journey that starts in the dark hues of Birtwistle’s interludes for his Aldeburgh-commissioned music theatre work of 2004 and ends in the radiant lyricism of Ravel’s gem for Chamber ensemble.
Along the way, Britten and Birtwistle works for solo harp and two settings for soprano-the sparse poetry of Paul Celan contrasting with Stravinsky’s whimsical take on Shakespeare.
London Sinfonietta’s long association with Birtwistle’s music makes them ideal exponents of a programme designed around the brilliance of their soloists.
