Experiment!
Thursday 29 April - Saturday 1 May

As a curtain-raiser to Experiment!, Robert Worby talks to two distinguished musicians with close links to the experimental music scene on both sides of the Atlantic. Frederic Rzewski has worked and collaborated with John Cage, Christian Wolff, Alvin Curran and others in America, while Michael Parsons worked in Britain with Cornelius Cardew and helped found the Scratch Orchestra. Together they talk with Robert about the history and philosophy of experimental music, and there’s music from both composers too. Rzewski plays his own Fougues no 1 and no 5, and Apartment House play Parsons’ Apartment House Suite and Rhythmic Canon; there are also excerpts from John Lely’s All About the Piano.

With thanks to nonesuch for permission to use Fougues; Michael Parsons and Anton Lukoszevieze for permission to use Appartment House Suite.
