Sara Mohr-Pietsch talks to Swansea-born, Berlin-based British composer Richard Barrett about his new London Sinfonietta-commissionned work, Mesopotamia. Barrett talks about his abiding interest in ancient history and how this has informed this work, and also about the compositional techniques he’s deployed in this substantial new piece, which was premiered at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival on 28 November 2009 before being performed at Southbank Centre, London, on 3 December.
