The London Sinfonietta Emerging Artists Programme is a unique opportunity for the next generation of exceptional musicians to get involved in the working life of the world’s leading new music ensemble.
It constitutes a series of professional experiences performing contemporary classical music: this includes a guarantee of two on-stage engagements as part of the London Sinfonietta’s season, working alongside the ensemble’s Principal Players, as well as optional extra workshop and performance opportunities as part of the our commissioning, participation and education projects.
The Emerging Artists Programme will primarily be aimed at instrumentalists; however we anticipate that as it develops participants will include conductors, vocalists and other artists.
At the heart of it will be the London Sinfonietta’s Principal Players, who will be involved in the recruitment, selection and mentoring of participants throughout their time on the scheme.
Emerging Artists for the future will primarily be identified through participation in the London Sinfonietta Academy, the ensemble's annual summer training course. Further details on the course and how to apply for the 2014 edition can be found here.
Selection criteria for the Emerging Artists Programme are outstanding musicianship, evidence of a commitment to new music and experience of professional work in the industry. We expect that between six and ten candidates will be selected to participate fully each year, and that their association with the ensemble may last for a total of two seasons.
The London Sinfonietta Emerging Artist programme is generously supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
Please note: participation in the Emerging Artists Programme is conditional on musicians possessing a valid UK work permit.
