Tim is a self-taught composer who founded the politically and musically radical Henry Cow group while studying social anthropology at Cambridge. Having devoted time to developing his improvisational skills and politically radical rock music, he returned to composed music with his 50 minute long ‘expressionist’ work Stop Mortal inspired by the work of Polish artist, Tadeusz Kantor. Of his work, Tim says he aims to write in and of his time and that ‘as a composer my work is orientated towards the experience of listening’. His works have been performed at a number of international festivals including Huddersfield and Spectrum XXI. Tim is also a recording artist, his latest disc, Klarnt, of solo clarinet improvisations being described as ‘real music, not grandstanding or experimentation’. (Acoustic Levitation)
As a London Sinfonietta Writing the Future composer, Tim worked with Michael Thompson, principal horn.
