Aged 23, Shiva says ‘I aim to write music which is accessible to my generation, as well as intelligent and thought-provoking.’ Having studied with Mark Anthony Turnage, she has had success winning a string of accolades including BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer (2004), Principal Composer of the National Youth Orchestra (2005), RCM Cobbett & Hurlstone Prize (2008) and has more recently been the youngest composer ever shortlisted for the British Composer Awards (2010). A significant element of her output is the incorporation of turntables into works for acoustic instruments, such as her TTKonzert, described as ‘full of an urgency one hears all too rarely in new music.’ (Telegraph)
As a London Sinfonietta Writing the Future composer, Shiva worked with Mark van de Wiel, principal clarinet.
