Isambard Khroustaliov

Composer
Writing the Future participant

Isambard Khroustaliov is the solo alias of Sam Britton, who is one half of electronic duo Icarus and a member of the collaborative project Not Applicable. His interest in the relationship between electronic techniques and instrumental performance has led him to study at IRCAM and undertake a PhD with Richard Barrett. His recent work has included a suite for two improvising musicians and automated improvised electronics at the North Sea Jazz Festival. His album Ohka received much praise, the music described as ‘always aurally compelling, but also has bonus aspects within the realms of tactile sensation and visual fantasy.’ (BBC)

As a London Sinfonietta Writing the Future composer, Isambard worked with David Hockings, principal percussion.
