The Art of News

Exploring the connections between daily news, music and text

Politics, celebrities, binge drinking, football, the American election...

Our diet of daily news can be like so much fast food - gulped down and barely digested - so in this project, led by composer Dominic Muldowney and poet Graham Roos, we attempt to create some order from the chaos discovering the art before our eyes by turning the daily news into the text for music, radical song, and 'hold the front page' poetry.

The London Sinfonietta (now with their headquarters at Kings Place, which is also the new home of The Guardian newspaper) explore music, words, news and new collaborations with composers, singers and poets from all walks of life. There will be concerts, cabaret and poetry readings, free foyer events and on-stage 'interventions' with films and performances from members of the local Kings Cross community developed through the London Sinfonietta's Participation programme.

There will be music by Dominic Muldowney (including the world premiere of a new London Sinfonietta commission), Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Mischa Poliansky, Stefan Wolpe, Frederic Rzewski, Luciano Berio and composers from the Royal Opera House's OperaGenesis scheme.

Following each concert there will be a nightly Poetry Platform featuring contributions from Graham Roos, Ray Artibus, Janet Suzman, Scroobius Pip, Nathan Penlington and John Hegley. On Saturday afternoon poet Tony Harrison will answer questions about his iconic TV documentary Black Daisies for the Bride

Promoted by the London Sinfonietta in association with Kings Place.
